1. Soak up spillage with absorbent tissue or cloth 2. Remove any solids with a blunt knife 3. Add a little cold water (Not Hot) to stained area and sponge off. 4. Blot again with absorbent tissue or cloth until removed. Never over wet stains - this causes it to spread Never rub or scrub the area - this damages the fibres Never allow stain to dry out - cover with a damp cloth
When cleaning stained rugs, vacuum the rug than spray with a solution made up by 3 parts water 1 part Vanish, leave for a while than use a small brush and comb the rug lengthwise, than wipe with a cloth dipped in solution made from 1 part vinegar and 5 part water and it will give a bright and new look.
Remove chewing gum from carpets with an ice cube. Once the gum is cold, it goes hard, then you gently pick it off.
If you have a spillage, NEVER rub, this distorts the carpet pile. Always just blot and blot and blot with white kitchen roll.
Spots that "return" in carpet are actually caused by detergent residue. Detergent residue attracts new soil by cleaning the bottom of shoes. The secret is not to leave soap and water to dry in the carpet.
Use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter, this stops dust being circulated back into the air that we breath and is particularly important for allergy sufferers.
When cleaning rugs, finish the fringes by spraying white vinegar, when dry they will be bright and new looking
Try to avoid using a cocktail of chemicals when cleaning stains, if one wont shift the stain people often try several,
mixing chemicals will often make a stain harder to remove.

Window cleaning hints & tips

When using a water - fed pole, make sure to scrub the top frame lots, particularly for dirty frames and if possible do the window twice. If not - all the dirt that is left will slowly leave streaks down your window no matter how much you have cleaned it.
When squeegeeing windows in the winter add some winter screen wash to your bucket of window cleaning solution to stop the water freezing up when you clean conservatories etc
Always use the correct ladders for the job or water fed pole system.
Clean very dirty windows with an applicator in a figure-of-eight pattern. Squeegee from the bottom left corner. Go up the left edge to the top, then across to the top-right, then work your way down from one side to the other, to end up at the bottom-left and finally across to the bottom-right.  Wipe around the edges with a clean, dry scrim.
Ripped up flannelette is an excellent replacement for scrim. In fact, I now prefer it.
Professional window cleaners avoid ladder falls by using pure water in water fed pole systems.
When using a scraper, always make sure the glass is wet and change the scraper blade regularly.
Housekeeping hints & tips

For Cleaning tiled areas, streak-free, after scrubbing, cleaning, rinsing with a dry cloth (fluff free) use a window cleaning applicator.
Oven Cleaning Tip. First, take baby wipes and dry them a little. Wear rubber gloves and soak the wipes in a strong oven cleaner.
Then, place the soaked wipes over the oven’s greasy spots and leave it like that for one hour (the soaked wipes will stay attached even on vertical surface). The oven cleaner will break the stains and the wipes will absorb it inside. Take off the wipes and use a gentle scotch to remove any leftovers. Then, use fresh baby wipes to clean and shine the oven exterior surface.
Use mayonnaise to remove stickers from wooden surface. Wipe on top, score the sticker then after 2 mins sticker just peels off.
Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let it sit for a while; the phosphoric acid in the Coca-Cola will work on the stain. Or put a few denture cleaning tablets in the bowl.
Don't use bleach or other such products down your loo if you are not on main drainage. This could damage your Klagester (tank) from working, use a vinegar based product instead.
Communal Cleaning hints & tips

When mopping communal areas, always leave 'wet floor' signs out until the floor is completely dry.
PVCu Cleaning hints & tips

You can clean these with a water fed pole - use an old brush and some fairy liquid / special soap that you may use in the traditional method. Though make sure you clean the frames / PVCu before the windows and rinse very well afterwards when doing the windows to get the soap residue off.
We use a solvent based, scratch free cleaner (made by Rhodorsil) that can get your window frames looking like new and then we polish them for a new look shine
Although tempting, you shouldn't use a cream cleaner on PVCu products. It will leave fine scratches on the surface which will hold dirt.
Office cleaning hints & tips

Although fairly obvious, organising desk clutter should always be the first priority before beginning your office clean. This is because it would not be possible to properly clean the area without first having sorted the paperwork that often covers desks.
Patio & Stonework hints & tips

Using a turbo pressure washer tip is many times more efficient than a standard jet. It revolves round and round (like a rotary cleaner), but has the advantage of being able to be more precisein areas that are particularly dirty / have stains / algae etc
Whenever cleaning stonework always test an inconspicuous area before blasting it with a rotary nozzle or applying chemicals as it is very simple to damage. A rotary nozzle will double the pressure of  your standard machine and make it very easy to damage the surface. It is also worth checking with your local planning department if your building is old or listed as you may require permission to clean it.
